OS/2 is a greatly different operating system for PC (ArcaOS, eComStation, IBM OS/2 Warp)
Applications, news, reviews, support of users, hardware, questions and answers.
Some eComStation and IBM OS/2 Warp users think that:
1. eComStation is not compatible with IBM OS/2 Warp
You can run legacy OS/2 Warp and DOS software in eComStation. This
compatibility has been proven as important as it protects customers
previous software investments.
2. eComStation is less stable than Warp Server for e-business (ACP2)
Not true, the first version of eComStation was based on OS/2 Warp.
(The base image of eCS 1.2 was 1:1 equal to Aurora Convenience Package 2,
ACP2 is expensive because includes IBM LAN server)
eComStation includes improved/fixed components of OS/2 + new technologies,
new drivers, applications and utilities.
3. eComStation is OS/2 + bells + files from Internet
All system components, all drivers are crossing in one point - installer.
It is updated often as the necessity arises (when new system component is added)
eComStation 2.0 what's new -
as you can see the infrastructure of the OS, the libraries of eComStation are updated.
Yes, you can download some components of eCS from Internet for free,
those files mainly are *on* the Internet because eComStation
paid for their development
(xwp, lucide, acpi, utilities, usb, snap, samba, .. some of them are free)
4. The developers of eComStation want kill OS/2
eComStation is developed by ex-OS/2 users and developers, not aliens.
The mission of every eComStation
developer is to create drivers and applications for users.
5. eComStation is expensive
eComStation includes bonus software which covers your expenses.
Upgrade of eComStation (software subscription) is very cheap.
You can't live without updates.
eComStation is changing every 3 months.
You need security updates, SMP-safe updates,
new applications, device drivers and tools.
